Virginia Beach: How to Spend a Summer Vacation in a Resort City

Over the past several years, Virginia Beach, Virginia has become a more family-oriented vacation destination. With warm beaches and plentiful sunshine in the summer, there are many warm season activities for fun and relaxation in this Mid-Atlantic coastal city. With Virginia Beach hotels and restaurants providing classic hospitality and good food, visitors spend a lot of quality time in this resort area. Here are just a few things to see and do when planning Virginia Beach vacations.

Beach Activities
The most obvious attraction in Virginia Beach is the beach itself. The Atlantic Ocean, Chesapeake Bay and their tributaries create miles of beach for sunbathing, wading, swimming, boogie boarding, walking and playing in the sand. Special areas of the oceanfront are set aside for surfing, jet skiing, waterskiing and other water sports and adventures. A three mile boardwalk and bike path stretch from Rudee Inlet north to encourage healthy exercise and sightseeing.

Atlantic Ocean and Chesapeake Bay
Fishing, boating and crabbing are popular activities on the Atlantic Ocean and Chesapeake Bay. It is one of the many things that makes Virginia Beach a vacation destination. Surf fishing is allowed in certain areas during set times of day. Virginia Beach has a handful of fishing piers, including Lynnhaven Fishing Pier and one on the boardwalk near 14th Street. Charter sea fishing trips are available out of several marinas, including Rudee Inlet and Lynnhaven Inlet. The State of Virginia requires a fishing license, which can be purchased online from the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries or at nearly any bait and tackle shop for a nominal fee.

Pick Your Own
For those who want to do more than spend time on the beach, but still wish to have fun with nature in this vacation destination, there is Pungo. A green zone lies at the south end of the resort city where agriculture is abundant and pick-your-own farms offer fresh produce and hours of fun. Depending on the season and the farm, customers can find strawberries, blackberries, blueberries, squash, watermelon, pumpkins, greens, lettuce and more. Some feature a wagon ride to the best picking fields from the main entrance. For those craving fresh produce without the physical effort, many of these places also offer pre-picked produce, as well as homemade jams and various pickled fruits and vegetables.

Musical Concerts
Music is a focal point of entertainment in Virginia Beach. There is an amphitheatre that seats nearly 30,000. During the summertime, there are several festivals and concerts on Virginia Beach boardwalk stages, including the American Music Festival in early September, GospelFest in April, Latin Fest in June and Beach Music Weekend in May.

Royal Caribbean International - The Cruise Line of Choice

One might think that with the name Royal Caribbean International one might be limited to cruising in the Caribbean Sea, but, that is certainly not the case. This Cruise Line will take you to exotic locations in Alaska, Asia, the Hawaiian Islands, Bermuda, and Mexico, in addition to all four areas of the Caribbean. So, as you can see, you will be offered a wealth of itineraries to explore when you choose a cruise with Royal Caribbean International.

Please don't think of a cruise ship as being just another form of transportation. You will not find a more enjoyable form of transportation, where you go aboard, unpack, enjoy the sights on activities of far away ports, try to do everything that available to do on board, and if you can find a little time to sleep you will do so in a spacious and comfortable stateroom. Oh! By the way, you will be dining in five star restaurants, trying to not gain too much weight. What the heck, it will only be for a few days.

What about the price? Royal Caribbean is certainly competitive and offers so much that you might find it hard to believe. Did you ever hear about the little old lady that spent all of her days cruising because she found it cheaper than a Nursing Home, and found it so much more enjoyable?

If you are ready to get away from it all, why not look into a Royal Caribbean cruise, and have the time of your life?

How to Find a Cruise - A First Time Cruisers Guide

When deciding to take that first cruise, one must start with a very important question. Where do you want to go? There are many fabulous cruise destinations but if this will be your first cruise you may consider visiting one of the most popular cruise destinations. The Caribbean, Mexico, Alaska, Canada, Bahamas and Hawaii are the most popular cruise destinations. Again, you must decide which destination will give you the most exciting, fun filled cruise vacation without breaking your bank account.

Next you must decide when to go on your cruise. Ask yourself, when will you be able to take off from your job and how long can you take off? These are very important questions to ask yourself unless you are working from home and you are your own boss. Give yourself enough time to leave your home and arrive at the embarkation port with enough time just in case of an emergency. Unless you purchase vacation insurance, which is highly recommended if the cruise line offers, you could lose money if you are not able to embark at the initial port of call. Now remember the cruise industry offers many itineraries that include 3-12 day cruises and some cruise lines offer even longer and shorter itineraries. However, I find that it is best for first time cruisers to start with the shorter 3 - 4 day itineraries to get the initial cruise experience and plan a longer cruise vacation for later. Most cruise experts agree as well. Upon returning from the cruise, you want to plan so you will have plenty of time to get back home without having to rush back. For example, if the cruise debarks at the starting port of call on the 5th of the month make sure you wont have to return to work on the 6th. Anything can happen, so you want to get back home safe and stress free.

Once you decide where and when to go, start to gather the necessary proof of citizenship documents according to when your cruise itinerary begins. It's best to have these documents at least 6 - 7 weeks out from your embarkation date. I provide a link for you below for the specific travel documents and requirements that must be adhered to before you prepare to leave on your cruise vacation.

Now before you go, also plan for the activities you will be doing. Ask yourself if you want to do a shore excursion and keep in mind that the different cruise lines offer different on shore activities that can be booked. What will be your dining preferences? Which differ depending on what cruise line you chose. Important also is what to wear. Baggage requirements. Money requirements etc. It seems like a lot but everything is broken down and easily manageable once you book and receive your travel documents. Most of the decisions you make can also be done online on the cruise carrier's booking engine.

Being a first time cruiser can seem to be an overwhelming process in the beginning, but once you book and systematically prepare and get all the necessary documents and plans done, you see that cruising is one of the great enjoyments of life.
